bI've noticed lately that creativity seems to come and go in cycles...like i'm on a roll or...not.
Its a really interesting phenonomen to ponder and observe. I seem to be forever seeking a balance between being productive and doing what I love and just being burnt out! Wish I could say no more often! What do you observe?
What an amazing start to 2017 having just completed the ®Avatar Masters Integrity Course. It was 9 days of working together to increase personal responsibility. It is such an inspiring experience to work in this way with such a level of care and support creating a model of how the world could operate. It makes me wish everyone in the world would be inspired to take this journey into greater awareness and truth. It becomes so clear that this is it the way forward for the world. We so need to rise above self-importance and see the bigger picture of working together to create co-operation rather than competition. This is the inspiration behind all of my artwork and creative pursuits. The first step is to see and experience with certainty that what we believe creates our filters to experience of the world. If you are interested to learn the tools offered by ®the Avatar Course contact me for more information.
This week I was fortunate to attend a talk by Progressive Education Guru, Alfie Kohn at Templestowe College. I came away thinking of how rapidly the world is changing and how stuck in tradition we can become instead of being flexible and changing with the world. Across all areas of life it seems apparent that the old ways of doing things are simply out of date and no longer serving us. From education to health, to religion and environment to life in general....the most important thing to me is to question everything we do and why we do it and to question is it serving us and helping us thrive? This takes being open-minded which in itself is a form of creativity, as is problem solving and innovation...and thinking outside the box of indoctrination! Creativity can be cultivated through the arts...and it is so important...which reminds me of my favourite quote "Creative work is not a selfish act or a bid for attention. It's a gift to the world and every being in it. Don't cheat us of your contribution, show us what you've got" Steven Pressfield
Last weekend I had the good fortune to be invited to volunteer on a camp to support refugee women who are entrepreneurs setting up their own businesses. It was a collaborative project involving Lord Somers Camp (PowerHouse) and Sisterworks, Melbourne. The differences and diversity were at first apparent, but as we joined together and bonded over sharing of stories and creative activities, our similarities were far more apparent than any difference. It was a very empowering and inspiring experience, one to learn and develop empathy for the courageous paths these women and their families have taken, and two to be a part of a bigger picture of what is possible for the world if we could all learn to live in respect and appreciation of one another and the diversity we bring. Through music, art and dance we had some amazing and spontaneous moments of connection and shared joy. The power of the arts (and kind-ness) is way too often under-estimated.
This is my very first attempt at Blogging...My aim is to share the world of art with anyone who is interested...in learning about what it means to be an artist, and giving a sneak peak into the perceptions and world of an artist. The journey begins with learning to value who you are and how you see things differently. Sometimes this is a struggle because we are taught to conform and 'fit-in'..but when you see things differently you don't. Accepting that and actually giving it value is step one! Then there is the world that we live in and its generalisations about art...Once artists were the sacred story tellers of life that passed on stories through generations, or recorded important aspects of life, but then they became superseded by technology. Artists can now struggle with what they do being undervalued...yet the more we detach from that feeling, perceiving human aspect of life the less contented and superficial the world becomes...so start taking notice of the benefit that the arts bring and get your fix today! CREATIVITY in any form is where CHANGE is possible.
